Painting the Wainwrights: Part II

 

Following the success of our first ‘Painting the Wainwrights’ exhibition in 2025, one of the biggest and longest-running exhibitions the Old Courthouse Gallery has ever hosted, we are proud to announce ‘Painting the Wainwrights: Part II’.

This captivating second show, which will run from 6 November to 6 December 2026, showcases 25 of the Lake District artist and fell runner's most recent paintings in the collection.

In the first exhibition in the series, Victoria painted all 214 Wainwright fells, the Lake District peaks featured in Alfred Wainwright’s legendary seven guidebooks, across a series of single-fell and multi-fell panoramas, showcasing the striking Cumbrian landscape across all its many seasons. The exhibition was a great success, offering visitors a unique opportunity to see all the Wainwrights depicted in one place.

In her second show, and as part of her aim to create an individual painting for each of the 214 Wainwrights, Victoria returns to capture some of the most well-loved as well as some lesser-visited summits. Taking her inspiration from time spent in the mountains, Victoria presents a unique perspective of the fells, carrying us with her as she runs through remoter regions, below soaring rock faces and over the barely perceptible ancient sheep trods that criss-cross the land.

You can visit the exhibition at the Old Courthouse Gallery in Ambleside from 6 November to 6 December, 2026. There will be also be a Private Viewing on the evening of the 6th of November.
