Painting the Wainwrights

The Old Courthouse Gallery in Ambleside hosted my first solo exhibition 'Painting the Wainwrights' from 2 August to 19 October, 2025. This unique exhibition showcased original oil paintings of all 214 Wainwrights (the Lake District peaks included in Alfred Wainwright's now legendary guidebooks). The mountains, locally called 'fells', were depicted across a mix of single-fell and multi-fell panoramic paintings, and was the culmination of personal challenge to climb and paint all 214 Wainwrights.

Taking inspiration from Wainwright, but blending it with my own love of exploring the fells on foot (and well off the beaten trod), I painted both familiar and unique perspectives of these much-loved fells.
